"Snippets" of Learning

I let my son cut his own hair tonight. Yes, you read that right.

I.let.my.seven.year.old.cut.his.own.hair.

He came to me and said, "where are the scissors, my bangs need cut." So I handed him the scissors, thinking that he wouldn't do it, but he did. I should have known not to doubt him. He never says anything that he doesn't mean and once he gets an idea, he is driven to complete it.

Being the perfectionist that he is, he actually did quite a good job too. That is probably the main reason why I stood aside and allowed him to continue cutting. He is a perfectionist little kid who takes great pride in his hair. Should I be worried that at 7 years old, he already knows what it takes to look good?

The other day, the 3 of us were out shopping and he was wearing khakis and a button up shirt. He turned to me and quite seriously asked, "Do I look professional?" I said, "Of course you do! Very handsome and professional."

During a normal school day at home, he may go all day wearing pajamas, but you can bet his hair looks good!

It took me a few shots to get him to allow me to take a picture, since I was "interrupting his night time reading."

Since I believe in child led exploration and learning, maybe I should let him cut my hair next time. What do you think?

Oh my word, as I was adding the pictures to this post, I looked up and saw him standing in the hallway half asleep, staring at me. Scared me half to death! I jumped up and asked him if something was wrong and you know what he said..."I need to go to the bathroom, but I wanted to look at you because you are so pretty." He is his father's son. What a sweetheart. Sigh.

He did do a good job on his bangs! I'm seriously entertaining the thought of what an unschooling beauty school would be like! ;'))) hehehe!! Very unique I'm sure it would be!
